25% of household waste is food. The UK throws away 7 million tonnes of food waste every year. The vast majority of which goes into landfill. This creates methane gas which is 20 times more harmfull to the enviroment than carbon dioxide.
By installing a food waste disposer not only can you reduce the amount of harmfull green house gases being released into the atmosphere, but actually harness this gas as an energy source.
How?
The FWD grinds your waste food into tiny particles. This waste is carried to the recycling centre via the sewage system (Avoiding the need for roadside collections).
Here it can recycled into Fetiliser, (reducing the production of chemical fetilisers)and Biogas to create electricity.
The average persons food waste can create the equivalent to 8 litres of diesel per year.

CIWEM
"CIWEM considers that food waste disposers may have a useful place in the management of food waste and they might be a more convenient and enviromentally superior alternative to seperate storage and collection."
"The addition of ground food waste (high in organic matter, fat and moisture) to waste water increases Biogas production to an estimated 300MJ/resident/annum (equivalent to 8 litres of diesel).
70% of food waste is water. Why wouldn't you send it down the drain. |
